They're usually on the short side, and well written. I'd like to give a shout out to the rules from White Dog Games. I will say, in the single turn I've played, it looks like every chit has an interesting role to play in the game. There are a lot of chits in this game, but they're fairly easy to set up. There does seem to be a lot of moving parts on the map for this one, and it does take longer to set up than either of the other games I've played from White Dog Games. I played Turn 1 last night, and my initial thoughts are positive. The downside is, after WW1, this is my least favorite genre. The upside is we're looking at another small game, with a small footprint. I'm playing this to see how it stacks up to The White Tribe, and Don't Tread on Me, both of which I thought were fantastic. Of course, UP has a much larger decision space.Īfter finishing my last game of The White Tribe: Rhodesia's War 1966-1980 with a loss, I packed it up and now have N: The Napoleonic Wars on the table. Fewer 'units' and no terrain make for a greatly simplified ruleset as well. The shorter playing time is probably the biggest factor. Would've been better to have only 2 groups with increased firepower in both. With only 3 guys, they had to close so much they were easy targets. The game ended with 6 German dead vs 1 US KIA.Īs I said, Sam is A HUGE fan of Up Front, so eventually we will get around to mortars, arty and tanks. Still, I kept getting fire cards I could use and as the Germans lost troops they had to come closer to make up their firepower powers, which increased MY effectiveness. I had no sniper cards, but ended up losing a man KIA to one of several German snipers. The Germans advanced and soon came within effective range of my team with the BAR (which was on a hill- +1 to firepower!). I couldn't use them, since at RR 3 I barely had 11 firepower factors. I was shooting at the group of 8 rifles, figuring I needed to get at least half the Germans to win.Īll of my fire cards required lots of firepower, 15, 14, 12. The Germans had 2 fire teams, 8 rifles in one group, Squad Leader and light MG in the 2nd group. Thinking I might be able to get some flank shots in, I split into 3 columns of troops: Squad Leader + BAR + 3 rifle in one group, Asst SL + 3 rifle in 2nd group, and 3 riflemen in last group. I had a 12 man US squad vs a 10 man German squad.
#MOUNT AND BLADE NAPOLEONIC WARS BARICADE HOW TO#
I sort of remembered how to play, and it isn't that complicated in any case. I've played Up Front once before, about 3 years ago. Sam is a huge Up Front fan, and since he played Attack Sub with me last month, it was my turn to play his game.
